Brief Update.
March 13, 2010
Just a brief update of the past couple of months – Nothing spectacular unfortunately. I’ve been developing my investigation of newspapers further, exploring the subject as a material and focusing less on content but I feel the pressure of the context of my art. I’m pretty sure all the fun and games can’t last forever and soon I will work my way back into looking at content again!

Newspapers part 1
November 29, 2009
Ongoing project using newspapers as the base of my collages. These are a series of small scale versions, using one theme each – either an entire article or a particular word or theme. The focus is mainly on aesthetics of the newspaper form and design, but also a humorous view on everyday news.

Rubbish Sculptures
November 29, 2009
A small experiment earlier in my 2nd year, looking into natural formations and reproduction patterns. I wanted to create a similar effect through recycled materials to question mass consumption and waste. I didn’t really enjoy being so conceptual, not much good at it so I quickly dropped the project.

‘An Unsent Letter’
November 11, 2009
‘Unsent letter’, ‘Remember the spider and the fly’, ‘Seasonal Depression’ and ‘Lapin and the Diamonds’ 2009
The following pieces were an attempt to reconnect with stay emotions and feelings throughout an emotional relationship, as depicted in old journal entries. Reading through these entries was a strange experience, as if seeing one’s reflection in a mirror with a stranger looking back. The entries were filled with riddles who’s meanings I could no longer understand. Each piece is a small extract of a past which is lost in riddle, even to myself.

Holga Series

‘Untitled’ 2008
An ongoing series of photos taken using a modded version of a Kodak Brownie camera. The photos a a collection of mishaps or mistakes, double exposures and experimental shooting. I try to keep my practice with the camera as loose as possible, letting the film and light leak and develop in a way in which I have as little control over the process as possible as so the results are always a surprise. There are no rules. No limits. No expectations. Just experimentation.
